A relationship with God is a simple and profound idea. Scriptures throughout the Bible expound on the relationship between God and Humanity. You might even say it is the main point of the entire Bible. Likewise, in our stories, Little Pot, Tea Pot, Oil Lamp, and Small Jar feel much more complete when they are close to the Potter. The relationship between the Potter and the vessels illustrates your relationship with God.
Let’s dive into what the scriptures tell us about your relationship with God.
Week one of A Beautiful Year in the Bible begins with The Relationship Between God and Humanity. It is a great place to start. The scriptures for this week are:
- Day 1 – Genesis 1-3
- Day 2 – Romans 1-2
- Day 3 – Joshua 1-5
- Day 4 – Psalms 1-2
- Day 5 – Job 1-2
- Day 6 – Isaiah 1-6
- Day 7 – Matthew 1-2

The Relationship with God Begins
Genesis 1-2 describes how God made His creation. In chapter one, verse 26, God creates mankind. This was special because humans were made in God’s image. Then, in chapter two, we see a more detailed account of how He made man and woman. Just as the Potter uses HIs hands to create the vessels in our stories, God created man and woman using His hands. He could have spoken them into creation, just as he did everything else. However, He touched Adam and Eve, telling us that mankind is meant to have a personal and intimate relationship with God.
The Relationship with God Changes
In Genesis 3, we see that the relationship changes. After Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they knew good and evil. Consequently, their disobedience brought sin and death into the world. This severed their relationship with a holy and perfect God. We continue to see our sins and mistakes in Isaiah 1-6 and Romans 1-2. Even so, God continues to pursue us, seeking a deep, intimate relationship with Him, which is His primary goal.
The Relationship Grows
Adam and Eve had a garden through which to walk with God. Little Pot, Tea Pot, Oil Lamp, and Small Jar have the Potter’s workshop to visit with the Potter. You, my friend, have the Bible. Your relationship with God will grow as you walk through the scriptures this year. Therefore, I hope you will join me each week as we continue our … “Beautiful year in the Bible.”
Another way to grow in your relationship with God is to become a fruit-bearer. Just like Little Pot, you are a vessel created to bear fruit. The fruit your creator can grow through you is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Enter your first name and email below to download Little Pots’s seven steps to becoming a fruit pot! Afterward, you’ll “Learn a lot from a little pot!”
