Christine Trimpe and Little Pot share how to grow the fruit of the Spirit and have self-control with food.

How to grow the fruit of the Spirit. Self-Control with Food

Temptations lurk around every corner. And cultivating self-control, especially when it comes to food, can feel like a monumental challenge. However, when we allow the fruit of the Spirit to grow through us, we can have self-control with food. Little Pot is a vessel in which The Potter grows His fruit through. We are created by a Potter, too, and His fruit should be growing through us also. That makes us fruit pots! I’ve asked our readers to share their testimonies about a time the Potter surprisingly grew the fruit of the Spirit through them. Today’s fruit pot, Christine Trimpe, shares how the Potter transformed her in a time of grief. He provided a way to navigate cravings. She shares a fantastic testimony of self-control with food.

Most things in life become easier as we get older. However, weight loss seems to become increasingly more difficult. I have struggled with it quite a bit over the past few years. That’s why I am so excited that Christine Trimpe has shared a fruitful testimony about self-control with food. Here’s what she has to say.

Meet Fruit Pot, Christine Trimpe

Christine Trimpe is familiar with the monumental task of weight loss. She tells the story of a mountain she wanted to climb but couldn’t. At forty-eight, she was over one hundred pounds heavier than she should be. Wanting to climb a literal mountain at the Rocky Mountain National Park, her weight and health would not allow her to do it. As she looked up, she realized the mountain was not just a literal achievement. She needed to be able to climb and move mountains figuratively, too. She prayed, and the Holy Spirit answered. Her faith moved a mountain of despair, and she began to climb a mountain of physical health.

Now, Christine is a certified weight loss practitioner and the award-winning author of SugarFreed. She lost 100 pounds as she read her Bible and allowed Jesus to change her heart and her health. She even equips other Christian women to break free from sugar strongholds, walk in the Spirit, and have self-control with food. SugarFreed isn’t just about food—it’s about faith, freedom, and finally winning the weight-loss battle. Once and forever. Here’s a video that explains.

A Test of Self-Control with Food

We love to think we’ve won the battle of self-control with food once and for all. Christine had to overcome pain and despair in her climb. She was finally in a place where she was happy and healthy. However, this year has been filled with torrential storms. First, her elderly father fell and broke his hip, requiring surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation. Then her son needed urgent medical intervention and was hospitalized for ten days, plus ongoing intensive outpatient treatment. As his caretaker, this was a stressful situation. Advocating can be exhausting. Then her beloved baby brother passed away from a sudden cardiac arrest at the age of 49. Christine’s heart was shattered.

Food would be a comfort, and who could blame her? Her previous sugar addiction told her that sweets would give her the strength and comfort she needed. But praise God, He grew in her a passion for His Word and excellent self-control over my health and behaviors. Surprisingly, the Holy Spirit was there, replacing the food that would have helped her cope with the heartbreak and stress.

A few days after her brother passed, she found a note he had written in a journal. It was a simple message we can all take to heart and remember. The note said, “Control yourself. You can do this!” That little gift from her brother continues to motivate her to rely on The Helper, The Holy Spirit. After this year, she is confident that she will never again be sick and tired, thanks to the gift of self-control with food and my immense joy in the Lord!
