The Journey of Finding an Amazing Life

Let’s be real, we are all seeking an amazing life. Just like Little Pot, Tea Pot, Oil Lamp, and Small Jar, we become focused on discovering it the moment our Potter creates us. We may look around and think this is not it. There is something in my life that could be more amazing. Alternatively, we may have a day when we feel that our life is fantastic. Truthfully, we let our circumstances determine whether our life is extraordinary. But, what if it is something more than the things we held? I recently shared with Tanya Gioia on The Faith Over Addiction Podcast about Finding Rest While Fulfilling Your Calling.

Meet Tanya Gioia

Tanya Gioia is a Harvard-trained theologian, certified Family Recovery Coach, and woman who knows what it’s like to lose herself in someone else’s addiction. She lives an amazing life as a fruit pot, a vessel the Potter uses to grow the fruit of the Spirit. She does it by helping others who face addictions or have loved ones who are facing addictions. Tanya started the Faith Over Addiction Podcast because she wants others to have a place where they can hear the truth without shame—a place where they can stop performing, fixing, and rescuing. Her podcast is a space where listeners hear God’s voice and can pick the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. All the things needed when you love someone who is lost in an addiction.

Step 1. Find your identity as a fruit pot.

Tanya and I first discussed the journey God took me on to discover my God-given Identity. Like the Little Pot, I defined myself by whatever I was holding in life. When the Potter filled me with something great, I thought I was living an amazing life. When He emptied me, I felt unfulfilled and searched for something new that would make me feel like my life mattered again. Because I traveled that journey, I was able to discover what a truly amazing life was. It is a life through which the Potter can produce His love. It gives others joy and peace. An amazing life is patient, kind, and good. It is lived with gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control.

The Potter’s vessels share four steps to discovering your amazing life.

Step 2: An Amazing Life Serves Others

The fruit of the Spirit is not just for you. Think about a fruit tree that never shared its fruit. The pure purpose of love, joy, peace, patience, and kindness is to show these things to others. Not so they look at us and think, “Wow, they live a wonderful life.” It is so that they receive God’s love, joy, and peace into their lives. That is why in the second book, Little Pot meets a Tea Pot who can pour into others and serve. If you want a fantastic life, figure out how you can help others. Tanya serves women who are serving loved ones with addiction. She helps them shine without burning out.

Step 3: Do Not be Afraid to Shine

Next, Tanya and I discuss that carrying God’s light to others can be scary. The oil lamp within the third book is expected to hold a flame. It is easy to be afraid of fire. However, without it, the vessel could not give the Potter’s light to others and shine. As I became more comfortable carrying God’s light and sharing Jesus with others, God elevated me. I was given leadership roles and had to take on others’ burdens. Those listening to Tanya’s podcast understand. An amazing life can lead to burnout.

Step 4: Overcome Burnout. Your Amazing Life Does Not End!

So, how do you avoid burnout in the extraordinary life God designed? That answer can be found in the fourth book of The Potter Series. The Small Jar is a cracked jar that feels its amazing life is over. After all, it carries a crack and appears useless. However, the vessels discover that the crack is precisely what the Potter needs to refuel the Oil Lamp, so it will not burn out. The amazing life that God designed just for you can be hard. It won’t be something you can live without God’s power. God will deliver His Spirit and power to you through others. He will also use your cracks and wounds to supply others the power and HOly Spirit they need to live the remarkable life He has designed for them.

Tanya Gioia is living an amazing, God-designed life. And, she is helping others. I hope you will take the time to listen to her podcast, share it, and write a review. When you do, you will be refueling her with some Holy Spirit Oil, just as in the Small Jar.
