God's guidance and direction. How to see and follow the Potter's advice

God’s Guidance and Direction. How to see and follow the Potter’s advice.

In our search for guidance and direction in life, we often seek answers from the wrong sources. But is the ultimate source of wisdom and insight right before us? In this article, we will explore the concept of God’s guidance and direction and how, as vessels, we can learn to see and follow the Potter’s advice.

Throughout this week’s scripture, we will see areas where God gave guidance and direction. Let’s explore the scriptures and discover practical ways to perceive God’s guidance, deepen our relationship with Him, and confidently walk in His direction. Let’s join Little Pot, Tea Pot, Oil Lamp, and Small Jar and uncover the joy and fulfillment of seeing and following the Potter’s advice.

Scriptures for God’s Guidance and Direction

  • Isaiah 7-11
  • Romans 3-4
  • Genesis 4-7
  • Joshua 6-10
  • Psalms 3-5
  • Job 3-4
  • Matthew 3-4

The Potter’s Advice

This week, A Beautiful Year in the Bible begins with Isaiah 7-11. Isaiah provided people with God’s guidance and direction during uncertain times. God’s advice was to stop worrying and not be afraid. (Isaiah 7:4). He encourages the people to stop looking at circumstances and trust God’s promises. That is the same advice that the Potter gives The Little Pot each time it holds something and is emptied. Likewise, Tea Pot is focused on how it looks different from the other vessels. It wants to take control of the circumstances by keeping its tea and not sharing. Then, there’s Oil Lamp. Oil Lamp cannot see beyond its fear. It hides under a bowl, afraid to shine the Potter’s light. Finally, Small Jar’s circumstances have kept it in a dark, dusty corner, feeling useless. How often do we experience the same worries and fears?

Examples of God’s Guidance and Direction

God’s guidance and direction exist in the other scripture passages this week, too. Noah was given clear directions on how to build an ark that would provide safety for him and his family (Genesis 4-7). Joshua had guidance and direction for tearing down the walls of Jericho (Joshua 6-10).

Hearing God’s Guidance and Direction

In Psalm 3-5, David shows us how to follow God’s guidance and direction to overcome our fear. His call to God and honest conversations with God show us how to set aside our circumstances and trust God. Job 3-4 gives us another example of facing terrible circumstances. Consequently, Job wants to die. The guidance and direction that his friends provide are not helpful. God’s advice is the only way Job can withstand his circumstances. In Romans 3-5, we read that no one is good. Therefore, when we ask others for advice, we must check what they say against God’s Word. Finally, in Matthew 3-4, we meet John the Baptist, who introduces us to the Christ and Prince of Peace that Isaiah promised would come.
