Jack Be Nimble
Jack Be Nimble is a Mother Goose Nursery Rhyme about a little boy trying to jump over a candle stick.
In our version, Jack is trying to jump over his shadow! He learns, however, that he cannot because his shadow moves with him.
This creative teaching resource provides the tools to help your students develop the fruit of the Spirit through growing spiritually, socially, and academically.
Students will go on a shadow hunt and discover how God provides shade for plants and animals through shadows. They will then learn Psalm 91:1 and discover how we can rest in God’s shadow just as we find rest from the sun in the shade.
Students will trace each other’s shadows and have a shadow dance party.
Academic Growth with Jack Be Nimble
Students will identify where shadows come from using several shadow worksheets and games. Additionally, they will learn how a shadow’s shape will change depending on the position of the light casting the shadow. They will be able to observe the different positions of shadows at other times of the day. The guide includes a “Jack is Nimble” 3D puppet that they can stand. Using a flashlight, they can cast its shadow in different directions.
The guide also contains colorful worksheets where students can match objects to their shadows and draw in shadows for Jack is Nimble.
You will find enough in this packet for several weeks of outdoor and indoor shadow activities.
The shadow activities from preschool through kindergarten will help students know where shadows come from and how they move and change when objects move closer and around a light source.
