Do you want to see a real-life example of faithfulness? This summer, Little Pot has asked our readers to share their testimonies about when the Potter grew the fruit of the Spirit through them. Our first guest is Sharon Deur. Sharon is a children’s author who is also a fruit pot just like you. She is a vessel in which the Potter grows His fruit. I cannot wait for you to meet her and read about her example of faithfulness.
Sharon’s example of faithfulness
It was in 2018, and the Holy Spirit nudged Sharon to write devotionals for children. Like Little Pot and the other vessels, she had a deep interest and love for biblical metaphors. Therefore, she sat down at her computer and began typing excitedly. She had prayed for the Spirit’s leading and prompting to guide her. She relied on Him to find just the right words. Sharon knew she couldn’t do it without Him.
Her first devotional
She began with her favorite metaphor…we are like clay pots that God molds, shapes, and repairs every day. God is our Potter. It has always been Sharon’s go-to metaphor. It is based on Jeremiah 18:4. Perhaps the fact that her maiden name is “Potter” also sparked a deep affection for this comparison. Therefore, she prayed and wrote her first devotional.
A big goal, and bigger doubts
With God’s help, that was fun and easy. She wanted to continue and set herself a goal to write a total of ninety devotionals using biblical metaphors.
Almost every day, she took time to sit at her computer and type. She was doing it, and she was getting closer and closer to meeting her goal. Then, one day after typing a new devotional, she sat back and read what she wrote. Letting out a big sigh, she knew it just didn’t say what I wanted it to say! Then came the doubts. She’d never be able to write ninety. Was this even possible? Was she really a writer? Maybe God should get someone else for this task. It is too hard.
Sharon’s example of faithfulness
Finally, Sharon realized she had not begun the day’s writing session with prayer. It was plain & simple. She began writing without God, and she was deeply disappointed in herself. She was faithful to writing, but did not have the FAITHFULNESS to God through conversation. How could she have neglected Him when she knew He was the true author?
With teary eyes, she bowed and repented of trying to take the lead. Her vessel was not producing a very important aspect of the fruit of the Spirit. It was faithfulness! The potter was faithful to her, but she had not been faithful to Him!
It was amazing (and not surprising) that after praying, Sharon’s thoughts became words that a child could resonate with and that gave glory to our faithful Savior!

Continual Fruit Bearing
Now, Sharon would like to say that her mistake was never repeated. But faithfulness is something that must grow every day. Consequently, Sharon often forgot to faithfully pray before beginning to write. However, doing so has added to her testimony, and she’s been able to share how faithful conversations with the Potter are an essential part of the writing process. Adults & children have seen how the fruit of the Spirit grew in her example of faithfulness.
An example of faithfulness from Little Pot and Tea Pot
Just as Sharon discovered that faithfulness must grow daily, Little Pot and Tea Pot find that they must give away their fruit and tea so that they can produce it again the next day. We often make the mistake of thinking we can have aspects of the fruit of the Spirit, like patience and faithfulness. However, we never possess these things. The Potter grows them through us as we surrender to what He wants to do through us.
Sharon surrendered to do what God asked her to do and became a vessel where the Potter produces faithfulness. What is the Potter asking you to do?
