Lessons About Jesus on Good Friday. The Secrets to Growing the Fruit of the Spirit

Secrets to Growing the Fruit of the Spirit: Lessons About Jesus on Good Friday.

Good Friday is a significant day for Christians worldwide, as it commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. But beyond the historical and religious significance, Good Friday also offers valuable lessons about Jesus and his teachings. In particular, it provides insights into growing the Fruit of the Spirit. The Fruit of the Spirit refers to qualities God produces through us, including love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

These characteristics are important in the life of a believer. On this Good Friday, let us delve into the secrets of growing the Fruit of the Spirit, drawing inspiration from Jesus’ example as He offered Himself as the sacrifice for our sins on the cross. We will explore how Little Pot’s steps to becoming a fruit pot mirror Jesus’s behaviors on Good Friday. By observing them, we can learn powerful lessons about Jesus and allow His Spirit to grow the Fruit of the Spirit in our own lives. Let’s join Little Pot on this reflective journey and uncover the secrets to cultivating love, joy, peace, and other virtues within ourselves, inspired by Jesus’ sacrifice on Good Friday.

Lessons About Jesus on Good Friday

As I thought about what Jesus did on Good Friday, I was in awe of His fruit-bearing example! Let’s consider each step of the process.

He was Humble

Remember, the first step to being a fruit pot is containing humility. Little Pot’s Humus soil reminds us of that. Jesus shows us how to be humble in Luke 22:42 when He asks His Father to change the circumstances and not allow the crucifixion to happen. Then, He immediately tells His Father that regardless, He will follow the Father’s will and set aside His own. That’s HUMILITY!

Can you follow God’s when your circumstances are painful and unfair?

He knew God’s Word.

Little Pot has the seed of God’s Word planted inside it. One reason God the Father could not stop the crucifixion from happening was that His own Word had foretold it. Isaiah 53:4, Deuteronomy 21:23, Exodus 12:12-13 and 22, and Psalm 34:20 are just a few examples where the scriptures tell about Jesus dying on the cross. Imagine Jesus as a boy learning these Old Testament scriptures and knowing He would have to fulfill them.

Do you have God’s Word planted in you so that you can follow and live it like Christ?

Lessons About Jesus and Integrity.

The third step is to stem integrity. A righteous life supports the fruit. No one was more righteous and perfect than Jesus. In fact, it was because He had no sin that He could become our sin on the cross and make us the righteousness of God. See 2 Corinthians 5:21.

He formed and valued relationships.

The stem then grows leaves, representing the relationships we need to grow fruit. So, think for a minute about how Jesus fostered relationships. His disciples bailed on Him at HIs most crucial moment. They betrayed Him, and He sought them out before and after His death and resurrection. Just this week, I was talking with a friend who had been betrayed, and she couldn’t imagine how she would ever get past it. She was willing to end the relationship she had with that person. I shared how this was an opportunity for her to be like Jesus. Christ put his feelings aside and forgave his friends before they asked for forgiveness.

Can you do the same for your relationships?

He bloomed in knowledge.

Jesus continued to bloom knowledge as He hung on the cross. Think about the things He said as He hung there.

  • “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
  • “To day shalt thou be with me in paradise” (Sharing with the thief next to Him)
  • “Woman, behold, thy son! Behold, thy mother!” (Speaking to Mary and John)
  • “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (Which is Him quoting Psalm 22)
  • “It is finished.”
  • “Father, into thy hands, I commend my spirit.”

Even in immense pain, Jesus continued to express His knowledge to those listening. Are you sharing what God has taught you?
